O'Brien was recruited by St. Norberts prior to committing to SCSU. He'll be joining former Husky AJ Gale on the 2008-09 squad. January 5, 2008 - Offense - no problem. Casey Borer in just his second game for the Carolina Hurricanes had two points - a goal and an assist in helping the Canes defeat rival Atlanta 4-3 on January 4. Borer, the former Husky captain who was never known for his offensive play at SCSU is proving it's a different story at the professional level. He was leading the Albany River Rats defensive crew in scoring  prior to being called up to the NHL. And now, he's scoring at the NHL level. GAME STORY HERE

January 2, 2008 - An outstanding debut for Casey Borer on January 2 vs Southeast rival,  Atlanta Thrashers. Borer logged over 17 minutes of icetime incuding some power play time for the Canes. Borer played an aggressive, heady game, skated well and made some crisp tape to tape passes. He had two shots on goal and finished -1 in the Canes 4-3 overtime loss.

January 2, 2008 - Former Husky Captain Casey Borer has been called up by the Carolina Hurricanes of the NHL.  Borer, who has been skating for the teams AHL affiliate, the Albany River Rats will see his first action tonite as an NHLer vs the Atlanta Thrashers. Of coincidence, Borer is being called up to the Canes as a result of an injury (sprained knee) to another former Husky Bret Hedican. Borer has been leading the River Rats defensemen in goals (5), points (14) and power play goals (4). This game can be seen on the VERSUS   Channel.  On behalf of the CIC and the SCSU hockey fans we'd like to congratulate Casey on this milestone in his hockey career. STORY HERE. More on the game and a preview HERE

January 2, 2008 - Former UMD Bulldog, Mitch Ryan has jolined the SCSU HUskies. Due to transfer rules he'll have to sit out the balance of the season but would be eligible next year. Ryan, from Cloquet, had three points in 10 games last season including a goal against the Huskies. The 6' 200 pound Ryan will bring some size and physical play to the HUskies and hopefully a scoring touch. He had 68 points along with 166 penalty minutes in 94 games for Waterloo of the USHL.

December 19, 2007 -  After being out of the lineup snce November 24, Duvie Westcott returned to the Columbus Blue Jacket lineup on December 8 vs the Minnesota Wild.  His former SCSU teammate Tyler Arnason was recently placed on the IR by the Colorado Avalanche with a wrist injury. St. Cloud State University men’s hockey coach Bob Motzko has announced the signing of Jared Festler (Little Falls) and Drew LeBlanc (Hermantown) to national letters of intent to attend St. Cloud State University and play hockey for the Huskies. Festler was a standout prep player at nearby Little Falls High School, and he is now playing junior hockey with the Lincoln Stars of the USHL. A 5-9, 170-pound forward, Festler set a team record at Little Falls with 136 goals during his high school career. An All-State, All-Section and All-Conference award winner during his tenure at Little Falls High School, Festler helped lead the Flyers to their third consecutive MSHSL Class A state tournament appearance in 2006-07. He also gained a spot on the 2007 MSHSL Class A State All-Tournament squad. Of note, Festler led all MSHSL players in 2006-07 with 125 points (71g/54a).A team captain for coach Tony Couture at Little Falls, Festler was named his squad’s Most Valuable Player last winter. In 11 games this season with Lincoln in 2007-08, Festler has already charted two goals and four assists. LeBlanc, a 5-11, 185-pound forward, helped guide Hermantown to a MSHSL state title in 2006-07. As a senior, LeBlanc charted 31 goals and 59 assists for a school record 90 points in 2006-07. LeBlanc ranked fifth in the state among prep players for scoring last winter. He completed his prep career with 199 points, 79 goals and 120 assists for the Hawks. LeBlanc gained All-State, All-Area and All-Conference honors during his career at Hermantown, and he was named to the MSHSL Class A State All-Tournament squad in 2006-07. He currently plays junior hockey for the Chicago Steel of the USHL. LeBlanc completed the 2006-07 season with Chicago, and he has scored three goals and three assists for the Steel in 10 games this winter.“Jared (Festler) and Drew (LeBlanc) will be two outstanding additions to our program,” Motzko said. “These are very two very talented players, who come from two of the top high school programs in the state at Little Falls and Hermantown. Both are excellent students, and I believe they have the ability and desire to be impact players at the collegiate level.”Festler and LeBlanc will join a top-rated recruiting class at St. Cloud State, which includes earlier signees forward Jordy Christian (Moorhead), forward Travis Novak (Lethbridge, Alberta) defender Nicolas Rioux (Riviere-du-Loup, Quebec), and defender Sam Zabkowicz (Greendale, Wis

Meanwhile, Mark Hartigan was placed on waivers by the Detroit Red Wings. Hartigan was signed as a free agent following the 2006-07 season. September 29, 2007 - Raduns  seals it in shootout vs Dicas and Bruins

September 28, 2007 - Borer assigned to Albany by Canes

September 23, 2007 - There could be as many as four former SCSU Huskies on the ice tonight as the Carolina Hurricanes take on the Washington Capitals in pre-season action. Former SCSU defenseman, Casy Borer will be teamed with another former SCSU defenseman, Bret Hedican while SCSU alum Matt Cullen plays at forward for the Canes.  Joe Motzko, who was signed as a free agent by the Washington Capitals will be in the lineup as well. Recently, former Husky Andrew Gordon was assigned to the Caps AHL affiliate, the Hershey Bears while Tim Conboy was sent to the Canes club,  the Albany River Rats.  With only one excess defensive roster spot Borer now has an even chance to be on  the teams squad for opening day. Update: Cullen, Hedican and Borer all saw substantial ice time for the Canes. Motzko was not in the lineup for the Caps. Super Stat Sheet Here

September 23, 2007 - First-year forward Luca Cunti has cleared several of the hurdles to become eligible to compete for the Huskies in 2007-08.  He is enrolled at SCSU and has been deemed academically eligible by the NCAA. The final step for the NCAA is to clear his amateur status.

September 23, 2007 - Matt Hendricks and Nate Dicasmirro Reassigned to Providence by the Boston Bruins

September 22, 2007 - Nate Raduns had another strong effort for the San Jose Sharks in their 3-1 win over the Anahein Ducks on September 21.  Raduns had 17 shifts and over 10 minutes of ice time in the Sharks win as he continues to battle for a roster spot with the team.

September 21, 2007 - Borer Has a Big Night for Canes

September 19, 2007 - With the end of the San Jose Sharks training camp coming to a close on Friday, Sept. 21, former SCSU forward Nate Raduns (Sauk Rapids, MN) has quietly maintained his position with the squad during his tryout agreement. While not under contract, Raduns apparantly has shown management enough to continue to stick with the team as they close in on the end of camp. Raduns had three points in the squads two rookie games vs the Anaheim Ducks prior to injuring a shoulder which kept him out of practice for a couple of sessions. He has since returned and recently competed in the teams Teal and White game on September 17.  We'll keep you advised of Nate's status with the team...

September 19, 2007 - Washington Capitals  - assigned defensemen Dean Arsene, Sean Collins, Jamie Hunt, Sami Lepisto, and Patrick McNeill, RW Scott Barney, centers Jay Beagle and Jason Morgan, centers Andrew Joudrey, LW Quintin Laing, RW Tommy Maxwell, F Chris McAllister, LW Grant McNeill, forwards Travis Morin, Steve Pinizzotto, Andrew Gordon, Marty Guerin, and Steve Werner left wing Grant Potulny to Hershey of the AHL released forward Dan Kronick.

September 7, 2007 - Click HERE for a 2007 CIC membership form (pdf file)

September 6, 2007 - We had a chance to chat with Paul Jensen, the father of former SCSU forward Joe Jensen. He indicated Joe was on his way back to rookie camp with the Pittsburgh Penguins most likely to end up with the AHL affiliate, Wilkes-Barr for the 2007-08 season. He'll particpate in the rookie tourney in Ontario this week. Joe split time between Wheeling of the ECHL and Wilkes-Barr and made the most of his time with the AHL team putting up 11 points in 25 games.  Joe sends his geetings to the SCSU fans and wishes the team the best for 2007-08.

September 6, 2007 - It appears likely SCSU recruit Luca Cunti will be admitted to SCSU. That is step one of the process to join the squad for the 2007-08 season. He still has to  clear the eligibility requirements of the NCAA clearinghouse.  Cunti was scheduled to play for the Chicago Steel of the USHL in 2007-08. Similarly, another recruit, defenseman,  Nick Rioux (Rivier-du-Loup, Que.) has been admitted to school but has not as of yet been cleared for eligibility for 2007-08 by the NCAA and it appears he will not be eligible until 2008-09. Stay tuned.

August 12, 2007 - MISC NOTES : It was fun to see a few of the 2006-07 Huskies return for the CIC golf tourney on August 10.   Andrew Gordon and Dan Kronick from the 2006- 07 Huskies joined us for a round of golf along with Nate Dey, Michael Olson, Matt Stephenson, Chris Anderson, Ryan Peckskamp, Matt Hartman, Nick Oslund, Garrett Raboin and Johnny Swanson from the current squad.. Jackie Jensen, from the 2006-07 women's squad also participated.  Dan Kronick, who, by the way, is a tremendous golfer, participated in the Washington Caps Rookie camp this summer and will be heading back by invitation  in an attempt to get a pro contract in September. Nate Raduns, who trys to fly under the radar, did get a Amateur Tryout Contract  with the San Jose Sharks.  He's got a deferred scholarship to graduate school at Vanderbilt should he wish to pursue pro hockey. Michael Olson and Matt Stephenson  are very excited about the 2007-08 squad and have both worked hard in the off season. Both will be leaders in captains practices that will start in a few weeks. We  chatted with Garrett Raboin, who pound for pound is one of the biggest hitters in the league and he is thrilled about his decision to join the Huskies in 2006-07. He states he couldn't have made a better choice of schools to continue his hockey. Mark Hartigan, who recently signed with the Detroit Red Wings is moving to the Plymouth, MN  area to make residence. The Granite City Lumberjacks, a new  St. Cloud area  Junior hockey team had a nice presence at the CIC tourney. Rock Johnstone, one of the principal owners has always been a solid supporter  of SCSU  men's and women's hockey and youth hockey in St. Cloud.  It was also great to see former SCSU assistant Brad Willner, now coach of the Minnesota Blizzard at the CIC golf tourney. Craig Shermoen and Herm Finnegan of the 1986-87 Huskies and Al Paulson and John Duncan of the 1962-63 Huskies continue to support the CIC golf event. Former coach Craig Dahl also fielded a team for this years event.

December 13, 2006 - Hold on folks. Any rumors  that former Husky Mark Parrish and the Wild could part ways is a little premature.  I was treated to a visit to the Wild locker room after the December 7th game vs Calgary and had a chance to chat with Mark who logged over 14 minutes of icetime that night and was a staple on the power play. He was giving former teammate Matt Bailey a tour of the facility as well. Obviously he's as frustrated as anyone in his points thus far but exploded with  a great night vs Chicago two days later as he scored three goals  including the unassisted winner in the OT win over Chicago.  Let's hope this is the start of a nice offensive streak for Mark who is certainly one of the nicest guys in hockey. Stay tuned... (notes by CIC President Bill Prout)
